The draw was conducted on Thursday, January 15, at the Mohammed VI Football Complex in Rabat, Morocco.
Head coach Kim Lars Björkegren’s side were placed in Pot 1 alongside continental heavyweights Nigeria, host nation Morocco, and reigning runners-up South Africa, reflecting Ghana’s growing status in African women’s football.
The group stage will see the top two teams from each group advance to the knockout phase, which includes the quarter-finals, semi-finals, third-place play-off, and final. The tournament will also serve as a pathway to the FIFA Women’s World Cup Brazil 2027, with qualifying play-offs included in the latter stages.
Ghana enter the competition with confidence after finishing third at the last edition, also hosted in Morocco. The Black Queens secured the bronze medal by defeating South Africa in the third-place play-off, marking a strong return to continental relevance.
Nigeria head into the tournament as defending champions after defeating hosts Morocco in the previous final, underlining their dominance in African women’s football.
The 2026 WAFCON is scheduled to kick off on March 17, with the final set for April 3, promising weeks of high-quality competition and intense continental rivalries.
