Panama head coach Thomas Christiansen Tarin has thrown his hat into the ring for the vacant Ghana national team job, GHANAsoccernet.com can exclusively report.
The Danish-Spanish tactician is the latest name to show interest in the Black Stars position, which has drawn wide attention from coaches at home and abroad.
Christiansen knows Ghana’s strengths first-hand. He faced the Black Stars at the 2026 World Cup, where his Panama side lost 1-0.
The narrow margin showed how tight the contest was. Ghana’s ability to grind out a result at the sport’s biggest tournament is likely to count in his favour as the Ghana Football Association (GFA) weighs its candidates.
The former Barcelona B player has built a varied coaching résumé across Europe.
He has managed AEK Larnaca and APOEL Nicosia in Cyprus, and had a spell in charge of Leeds United in the English Championship. He also led Belgian side Union Saint-Gilloise from July 2019 to May 2020.
Christiansen has earned a reputation as an organised, tactically flexible coach, and his work with Panama has given him experience of international football at the highest level.
Supporters of his candidacy will point to his record of building competitive teams and his familiarity with the demands of major tournaments.
Any move would depend on his commitments to Panama and on the GFA’s own selection process.
Neither the GFA nor the Panamanian football federation had publicly commented on the application at the time of publication.
The Black Stars job remains one of the most sought-after on the continent. Whoever is chosen will inherit a squad with big expectations from fans and a demanding calendar of qualifiers and tournaments ahead.
A joint five-member committee drawn from the GFA and the Ghana Government is expected to review all applications before announcing the appointment.
