Manchester United have officially confirmed that veteran Brazilian midfielder Casemiro will leave the club at the end of the 2025/26 season when his contract expires.
The announcement, made on January 22, 2026, brings an end to the 33-year-old’s four-year stint at Old Trafford. Casemiro joined Manchester United from Real Madrid in August 2022 for a reported £60 million fee and quickly established himself as a key figure in the midfield.
During his time with the club, he made 146 appearances across all competitions, scoring 21 goals. Casemiro played a pivotal role in United’s trophy successes, including scoring in the 2023 Carabao Cup final victory over Newcastle United and contributing to the Emirates FA Cup win in 2024. He also helped the team reach the Europa League final in 2025.
The club decided not to activate a one-year extension option in his contract, opting instead to allow the deal to run down. This move aligns with Manchester United’s plans to refresh and overhaul their midfield options in the coming transfer windows, partly to manage the wage bill given Casemiro’s high earnings.
In an emotional statement released alongside the club’s confirmation, Casemiro expressed his gratitude and commitment to giving his all in the remaining months .“Knowing when stages come to an end. Knowing when to say goodbye when you feel that you will be remembered and respected forever. Four months to give my all for this badge and for our goal. Eternal respect and affection for Manchester United and its wonderful fans. Forever Red Devil.”
He added that, “I will carry Manchester United with me throughout my entire life. From the first day that I walked out at this beautiful stadium, I felt the passion of Old Trafford and the love that I now share with our supporters for this special club.”
Casemiro will depart as a free agent this summer, marking the end of an era for one of the Premier League’s most decorated midfielders. Fans and teammates have already begun paying tribute to his contributions and leadership on the pitch
