Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku has announced his decision to step down as President of the West African Football Union Zone B (WAFU B), following his recent appointment as 2nd Vice-President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF).
The decision also reflects the growing demands of his continuing role as President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA).
Okraku, who has led WAFU B with distinction, expressed that while it has been a great honour to serve the region, the increasing responsibilities at both the continental and national levels require his full attention. He emphasized the importance of giving his utmost best in every role he holds—an expectation that is becoming increasingly difficult to meet due to the expanding scope of his duties.
“In the next few days, I will commence the process of handing over my role as WAFU Zone B President to a new leader who, I am sure, will continue the good work we have started in the group; including maintaining the peace we are experiencing in the Zone while continuing to work to build unity within the region.
Under Okraku’s tenure, WAFU B saw a renewed focus on development, cooperation, and regional integration, marked by the relocation of its permanent Secretariat and the implementation of key strategic initiatives. He also played a vital role in fostering collaboration among member associations, ensuring the Zone maintained its influential voice in African football governance.
Okraku took time to thank the staff at the WAFU B Headquarters for their unwavering commitment and professionalism, encouraging them to remain steadfast in upholding the values and vision of the organization.
“As I leave the role of being your President, let me assure you that I will always remain a true disciple of the Zone.
Thank you for the awesome experience of leading the Zone, and I wish us all well in our future endeavours!
His departure sets the stage for a new leader to take over the leadership of the sub-regional bloc.
